The 3 Costs
Associated With Getting On The Web
There are 3 main costs associated with
building a website:
1. One Time Fees
These are the initial fees to build and promote your website.
They include the actual programming of your website, creating the pages, the
links, scanning and or creating the graphics. They also include small fees like
the hosting server's setup fees, reporting your site to "search
engines", and any other miscellaneous costs to create your initial
website.
This amount can vary greatly from £500 to
£500,000 to figures that are really quite scary. There are websites for each of
these amounts but the important thing is to realise that a Banks security (for
example) is of extreme importance, so obviously the cost involved in that sort
of site will be dramatically different to a typical small business advertising
their products.
A1 Media Services "Budget
Package" starts at just £500 and realistically, you can expect to pay in
the vicinity of £1,000 - £5,000 for a small to medium business site. We work
with all budgets. Homepage to E-Commerce site.

2. Hosting
Once your website is built, you'll need to make it
available to the public. You do this by renting computer space with a company
that is connected to the Internet. This is called "Hosting". Also,
along with hosting your website, most companies will also host your E-mail as
well, allowing you to make up your own E-mail addresses like info@yourcompany.co.uk
or sales@yourcompany.co.uk, etc., etc. These fees can vary quite a bit. The
problem is most of the time you are mixing "apples and oranges". You
may see one company offering hosting for £35 per month and another charging £350
per month!! How could that be?? First of all, they are probably not offering the
same service. They may appear to be, but after careful examination, you'll see
all kinds of differences. And, don't be surprised if you find a company with
very moderate prices beating the daylights out of the companies charging very
high prices. National providers can charge you hundreds of pounds more for
the same services, just because they consider themselves "full
service" and that roughly translates to, "still haven't recouped all
their development costs yet".
If you utilise A1 Media Services to host
your domain, your monthly fee can be as low as £15 per month for a virtual
server. Full servers are from only £60 per month and we include unlimited
E-mail aliasing.

3. Your
"Domain" name
You'll need a "Domain" name like
www.yourcompany.co.uk. You receive this name by contacting Nominet
, (in the UK), who administrate "Domain Names". Unfortunately, unless
you happen to have 2 of your own DNS IP addresses, you will need a company that
does, to order your name for you. Companies charge anywhere from hundreds of
pounds to "nothing" to provide this service. However, you will need to
pay an initial fee of £80 (+ Vat) to Nominet for the first 2 years, and then £40
(+ Vat) per year thereafter.
If you utilise A1 Media Services to design
your website we will handle all of this work for you at NO CHARGE. You will only
need to pay Nominets fee.
