Ashford
The Borough of Ashford covers 224 square miles and is the largest of the Kent districts. Map
About 102,00 people live in the Borough, which is in the heart of the "Garden of England".
The countryside is diverse in character; to the north of Ashford are the undulating North Downs which rise to 600 feet and afford splendid panoramic views; to the west is the Weald of Kent with its wooded and open rolling countryside; whilst to the south are the flat farmlands and more exposed areas of Romney Marsh, fringed by the dramatic eroded cliffs of the Old Romney shoreline.
Ashford itself is at the confluence of the East Stour and Great Stour rivers that flow
on through a gap in the Downs towards Canterbury.
Although Ashford is an expanding, go-ahead town firmly at the centre of the European stage,
there is a quieter, gentler side to the borough. The surrounding, tranquil countryside,
hop gardens, picturesque villages and historic buildings, offer both residents
and visitors the "Best of Traditional Kent."
